WebCT Vista Communication Tools: Can you hear me now?

Course Description:

This workshop will explore the communication tools in Vista 3.0, including Calendar, Discussions, Mail, Chat/Whiteboard, Who’s Online, and Announcements tools. We will cover how and when to add these tools, as well as how to customize each tool for your class.

WebCT Vista Essentials Online

Course Description:
Learn about Vista in Vista - in an online class that lets you learn at your own pace. An agenda guides you through the learning materials, and class facilitators are available if you have questions or problems. The online class offers:
  • step-by-step instructions,
  • instructive videos,
  • short Flash quizzes, and
  • hands-on exercises in your own Vista training class.

Please view the workshop objectives and class agenda for more information. After you register, you will be contacted with the information you need to begin.

WebCT Vista Essentials through Breeze Meeting
Intended Audience:

basic computing experience; comfortable using Web browsers
Course Description:
This workshop is intended for faculty, staff and graduate students who prefer to attend an instructor-led training session online.

This workshop is designed to help you create your WebCT Vista class and prepare it for use. You will learn all of the basics you need to know to get your class ready for the semester from the comfort of your home or office computer. Users should have a headset and a computer with a highspeed internet connection (at least a DSL/cable modem).

After this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Configure your browser to work with Vista
  • Request and prepare your class
  • Use the basic Vista tools
  • Add/remove tools on the Vista toolbar
  • Create headers and footers on organizer pages

WebCT Vista Grade Book
Intended Audience:
Faculty, staff and graduate students

Course Description:
In this workshop, you will learn to:
  • Distinguish between the uses of different column types in WebCT.
  • Add new columns to the grade book.
  • Enter grades manually to newly-added columns.
  • Modify different column properties.
  • Add the “My Grades” tool which enables students to see their grades to your WebCT course.
  • Release different columns in the grade book.
  • Enter a formula in the grade book which will show total accumulated points.
  • Download the WebCT grade book and modify it using a spread sheet.
  • Upload an Excel spread sheet into WebCT.
  • Search for student records in the grade book according to available criteria.

WebCT Vista Intensive
Intended Audience:
Faculty, staff and graduate students
Prerequisite Skills:
A working knowledge of Internet browsers, file management and the Windows or Macintosh operating system.
Course Description:
This all-day session will teach you all you need to know to get your class online with WebCT Vista. time will also be spent working with consultants to begin designing your class and putting content online. Feel free to bring your syllabus, notes, lectures, or any other electronic files you may want to upload to your class.

Note: there will be a one-hour break for lunch.

Course Description:
This individualized help session will assist instructors and designers build their Vista classes for the Spring semester.

Bring your files on a CD or floppy disk, or have them stored in your career account Home directory. Tell us what you'd like to do with your Vista class, and our trainers and consultants will work with you one-on-one to help you set it up.

This workshop will cover how to create and customize, and describe how students will view and submit them online.

After this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Create and customize settings for class assignments
  • Set selective release criteria for assignments
  • Set grading, collaboration, and submission options for assignments
  • View and grade submitted assignments and return to students for resubmission
  • Create group assignments
  • Link assignments to calendar entries

This workshop covers the three types of assessments in Vista: quizzes, self-tests, and surveys.

After this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Explain when to use each type of assessment
  • Create categories and questions in a question database
  • Describe and create each available question type
  • Create questions using the HTML and Equation Editors
  • Attach files to questions
  • Create and customize each type of assessment
  • Discuss strategies for fostering academic integrity
  • Customize selective release settings based on date/time and other criteria
  • Link assessments to individual calendar entries
  • Manage quiz submissions and grades

WebCT Vista: Designing and Presenting Content
Intended Audience:

Course Description:
In this Workshop, we will explore several options for presenting content and components to students. After reviewing options for sharing individual content files with students, we will examine the key differences between Organizer Pages and Learning Modules.

Through hands-on activities, we will build Learning Modules and customize the Action Menu to create rich, structured learning paths for students. We will also use the Media Library tool to build collections of media files to share with students.
